Priyanka Ghosh's Wedding

Rajesh and Mita Ghosh are from Houston, Texas, USA and when I first met them in January 2010, they were in India to decide on where the wedding of their daughter Priyanka would be held, and discuss the areas of work that they wanted me to handle. At first, there were the cards; one set for the engagement and one for the wedding to be held in December 2010 We handled this right from the sampling to couriering the finished product. I helped with the Venue selection; there were three venues chosen for the three functions that they had decided to haveThe Knot Planner took care of the Sangeet Mehendi evening for which we followed a specific theme; in decor, food, music, ambience etc A special Interactive dance was on the cards and Dhaakis were brought in to showcase Bengali heritageThe Bidhhi, the shopping from Doshokormo Bhandar and for the Bidhhi, the wedding arrangements, the gaye holud, thebashi biye and ashirbad and the Bou Bhaat were all done by The Knot PlannerWe got the Horse and the Band for the Baraat and the priest to conduct the ceremony. We organized the Caterer and selected the menu, we did the Tattwo, we organized Mehendiwalis, the beautician for the Bride and her family, the photographer, the DJ,the live Shehnai players, the florist and the decorator as well.

Rumi & Peter Ortiz's Wedding

Most of the work for the Wedding of Rumi Ray and Peter Ortiz (held In Kolkata in February 2010) was communicated to me over email and the telephone from USA where Rumi's mother Chitra Basu Ray lives. At the initial stage we did the cards; right from the designing, to the printing, the labeling and the couriering. Then I worked on the venue, the decorator and the florist, the menu selection, got the requisite licenses for playing recorded music and for live performances, got live shehnai at the wedding venue, made security arrangements at the residence where the family was staying, and took care of the car-logistics.I also did the Tattwo and took care of the Art work and the Mehendi evening.

The Chelliah Wedding

One of the earliest NRI weddings was Taj and Vijay Chelliah's daughter Shamantika's wedding in February 2007. This is a Dubai based family. The bride is from Andhra Pradesh, the groom is from Bihar, so this was a fusion wedding of sorts. I had to organise a house for members of the bride's family and the groom's groomÕs to stayin during the wedding period..and arrange for their food..and their transportation.I organised Live Carnatic musicians, who had to be brought from Andhra Pradesh, picked up from Howrah Station, put up for a couple of days, brought to the venues where they were to perform, and then dropped off at the station after it was all over.Special South Indian food was organized for them too. A car was put at their disposal, big enough for them to carry their musical instruments in. A Hundred gift boxes had to be packed with some special items, to be given away at the wedding venue to the ladies who were invited - a family custom. I organised the Mehendi ceremony, where I also organized the food and took care of the decor. The mehendiwali was contacted, a bangle display was done for the lady guests to wear and participate in the sangeet which followed. Had organized the DJ and the sound system as well

Payal's Destination Wedding in Goa

Pralab and Anuradha Barua are from London. Their daughter Payal(Poochie) married Michael (Mike). The Venue was Taj Aquada Beach Resort, Goa. This was a FUSION wedding with rituals adapted from the bride's father's side (Assamese) and her mother's side(Bengali) and a lot of western inputs as well. For the Mehendi ceremony, the DJ and the food was organized by the Hotel. We did the bangle display and the wedding favours. For the Sangeet we did the script and the dances. For "Gaye holud" everything was bought and carried from Kolkata. For "Joroon " the Assamese version of Ashirbad, we took a "Fish" which was actually a sandesh and a tattwa tray each for the bride and groom, again taken from Kolkata. We organised a priest who was flown in from Delhi to conduct the wedding ceremony. For Bashi Biye/Bou Bhaat we took care of the rituals, which were more like games, which the bride andgroom played, and for which explanations were given to the assembled guests who had come from various parts of the world. The Reception, 'A BOLLYWOOD NIGHT', had live music by Usha Uthhup, who also went from Kolkata, followed by DJ music.
